West Dunbartonshire council house drive bears fruit

West Dunbartonshire Council has unveiled a new wave of council housing for the region as the authority moves to expand its stock of affordable and specialist housing.

Among this new breed is a 22 home development at Creveul Court in Alexandria town centre by Anderson Bell + Christie (pictured), which will offer a mix of accessible apartments and a wheelchair-ready bungalow upon completion this December.

This will be joined by a further houses and flats at the former Aitkenbar Primary School in Dumbarton and 126 homes at the former St Andrew's High School on North Douglas Street, Clydebank, both of which should be fully complete by next summer.

Cllr Caroline McAllister, vice convener of housing and communities said: “Providing new housing that matches the type and size required by our housing demand list really helps us positively regenerate these priority areas and I am pleased that work has already begun on our future plans.”

Looking further ahead the authority is developing plans for a mix of private and social housing at Clydebank East, where 339 multi-storey and maisonette flats are in the process of being demolished.
