Wavegarden pods and commercial hub win consent

An artificial surf park in Edinburgh has taken another step forwards after the project was granted consent from city planners to build overnight accommodation and a commercial hub complex.

Led by Tartan Leisure and HarrisonStevens landscape architects Wavegarden is distinguished as Scotland's first artificial surf park, repurposing the disused Craigpark Quarry near Ratho as a sport and leisure destination.

At the heart of the latest approval is a food court, alongside shops, a surf school and spa all arranged around a series of viewing terraces and an observation deck. This will be complemented by on-site glamping and 'wave' pods to provide guests with the opportunity to extend their stay within the unique environment.

Enabling work has already been undertaken with an opening date of 2022 slated for the water complex, which is set within a 60-acre park.
