Edinburgh St James student flats give way to a hotel and retail

Nuveen Real Estate (formerly TIAA Henderson Real Estate) has filed a change of use application for a planned student accommodation building at 27-31 James Craig Walk, Edinburgh, proposing instead to utilise the site for a mix of retail, leisure and hotel uses.

Part of the St James Centre development the work will require the erection of new shopfronts alongside internal and external alterations, which will require listed building consent.

Led by LDN Architects the work will see new sash and case windows installed together with timber panelled shopfronts and signboards. As part of the works, a service tunnel will connect to level 2 of Edinburgh St James.

A soft strip of the building has already been carried out with removal of all fixtures, fittings, partitions and suspended ceilings. Landscaping works will be carried out by OPEN.
