Water of Leith student flats pass planning on appeal

S Harrison Developments are to proceed with a 248-bedroom student housing development on Gorgie Road, Edinburgh, after winning approval from planners on appeal.

Designed by ICA the project will be spread across two separate buildings overlooking the Water of Leith with soft landscaping used to connect accommodation to the riverbank.

David Clancy, development director at S Harrison, said: “We are delighted with this decision and look forward to transforming this brownfield site into a high-quality student accommodation scheme.

“There’s no doubt this development will enhance the vibrancy of the area. It will be home to hundreds of socially active residents, which will benefit the local economy, whilst helping to free up general housing stock, in accordance with The City of Edinburgh Council’s student guidance.”

A mix of industrial units has already been cleared in readiness for construction early next year to allow completion by September 2022, joing a larger 394-bedroom development which is also in progress for the area.
