Paisley town centre regeneration ripples out with youth theatre bid

A disused Paisley nightclub is to be repurposed as a theatre under new plans lodged by Pink Architects and Pace Theatre Company with Renfrewshire Council.

This calls for a full refurbishment of New Templar Hall on Sneddon Street to provide a 300-seat youth theatre with workshops and a café together with a secondary 100-seat ‘black box’ venue.

New rooftop plant will be installed in the valley formed by the existing hipped roof with additional fire doors and a ramped access ensuring the building is compliant with modern building standards.

A series of cantilevered glazed canopies below a feature string course will complete the exterior works.

Defined by a distinctive octagonal turret the sandstone structure dates from 1932 and could serve to further town centre revitalization efforts around Paisley Gilmour Street station.
