Appetite for new student housing remains undimmed with a US investor committing £64m towards the development of hundreds of new homes in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Sheffield.
Investec Structured Property Finance will loan the cash to CA Ventures, financing a 422-bedroom tower on Glasgow’s Cathedral Street in addition to a 216-bedroom development at Dundee Street, Fountainbridge, in a sign of the ongoing appeal of the university sector to outside investors.
Occupying a prominent junction opposite Queen Street Station the Glasgow build will comprise a ‘landmark’ 18-storey tower designed by Urban Office Architects while its Edinburgh counterpart would take the form of a more modest 216 home development by GWP Architecture.
A 250-bed student housing development in Sheffield will also be progressed under the funding agreement.
All three projects are expected to welcome tenants at the start of the 2020/21 academic year.
