‘Scandi-Scot’ Troon hotel pushes the boat out

Marina operator Yacht Havens Group is to expand into the hotel sector with plans to open a £1.2m hotel in Troon, South Ayrshire, by early next year.

The Salt House Hotel will overlook yacht moorings finished in oceanic weatherboarding modelled on traditional Scandinavian timber homes and Scottish boathouses, with a variety of pitched roof forms mirroring the masts of moored yachts.

This will house a mix of 10 individually furnished suites, eight of which will enjoy a balcony overlooking Troon Harbour.

Stephen Bennie, manager of Troon Yacht Haven, commented: “After ‘dipping our toes in the water’ successfully with a restaurant, pub and floating pods, we were keen to open up the beautiful setting of Troon Yacht Haven and create something very special for those looking for relaxed luxury when staying away from home.

“With its striking ‘Scandi-Scot’ influences, the Salt House Hotel will, we believe, achieve just that. It will be an extraordinary building in its own right coupled with the kind of waterside views which draw your breath whatever the weather.”

The new hotel involves a combination of new build and refurbishment of existing buildings with current office and retail space also being reinstated as part of the work.
