Cumbernauld campus set-piece hailed as a new era for the town

A £37m school and theatre complex has been handed over to North Lanarkshire Council by Morrison Construction ahead of the start of the new academic year.

Cumbernauld Academy and Cumbernauld Theatre combine a 1,250 pupil capacity secondary school with a 305-seat auditorium together with a cinema, café, studio and dance hall.

Michael McBrearty, chief executive of hub South West, said: “The fine new educational and arts facilities mark a significant moment in the history of Cumbernauld, and we believe it symbolises also a new era in the future development of the town.”

The Norr designed campus was delivered under a design, build, finance and maintain contract.

Further phases of work will see the old Cumbernauld Academy buildings demolished and the creation of new parking, footpaths and sports facilities.
