Glasgow City Council is to progress the next two city centre avenue projects concurrently ahead of the completion of the Sauchiehall Avenue in the next few weeks.

Simultaneous consultations will take place for a new avenue spanning Renfrew, Killermont and North Hanover Street as well as a twin route connecting Elmbank and Holland Streets as part of a new wave of consultations kicking off from tomorrow.

The former will stretch from George Square past a past Buchanan Bus Station through to the conservatoire while the latter centres on plans to form a ‘pocket park’ at Holland Street.

Both consultations will run through to 18 August with an on-street consultation taking place on 23/24 July.
This follows the conclusion of similar exercises for Argyle Street, Trongate and Dixon Street, Sauchiehall Street precinct, Cambridge Street and New City Road (aka ‘The Underline).

Design and construction of all Avenues will be phased through to 2024.

So desperately needed for Renfrew Street, the public realm and air quality there is awful! Now let’s also see the ugly walk over to the Savoy Cebtre taken away also!

These proposals look fantastic! Long overdue, and if the transformative effect of Sauchiehall Street is anything to go by, they will vastly improve Renfrew, Holland and Pitt Streets.

This will be a vast improvement to the public realm in Glasgow! Whilst the city has a wealth of beautiful buildings, bringing life into the picture will have great benefits to city dwellers and workers who will become spoiled by both the diversity of the grid city's architecture and a newfound connection with nature. Exactly what we need during these times of environmental trouble!
