NHS Highland commence work on twin community hospitals

NHS Highland is to begin work on two new hospitals at Broadford and Aviemore after agreeing a £40m contract with Hub North Scotland to proceed with the twin facilities.

Work at Aviemore will get underway before the month is out with Broadford following by mid-August. Both facilities are then scheduled to open by spring 2021.

Deborah Jones, NHS Highland’s director of strategic commissioning, planning and performance, said: “This substantial investment in our estate will act as a springboard to enable the redesign of health and care services in these localities. I look forward to the construction work getting underway and to see the two new hospitals begin to take shape over the coming months.”

Both facilities are to be delivered by Balfour Beatty to designs by Oberlanders and Rural Design with services engineer Rybka and structural engineers Waterman also assisting.

A joint business case for the two hospitals was approved last month.

Bit of an eyesore that! Is it wise to have big over sailing eaves like that on Skye....
