Kinmundy to host £71m Peterhead Community Campus

Aberdeenshire Council has selected its preferred site for a £71m community campus in Peterhead, bringing together a 1,400-pupil secondary and 600 capacity primary school together with new leisure and cultural facilities.

Councillors unanimously selected a site at Kinmundy for the project, which includes scope for a new swimming pool in addition to twin sports halls, a fitness suite and theatre as a key component of the town’s masterplan.

Cllr Gillian Owen said: “Our objective is to provide ‘joined up’ services that best meet the needs of pupils and communities in the context of the council’s and Scottish Government requirements.

“Through this unique project, we hope to deliver a programme of work which meets the short, medium and long-term needs and aspirations of Peterhead and the surrounding communities, in line with the council’s priorities. Current thinking allows us to deliver crucial, impressive new school facilities at the same time as retaining and redeveloping many community facilities within the town centre.”

A full business case will now be authored for the project with the intent to progress the campus as part of the council’s capital plan for 2023-28.
