Glasgow’s Dundashill has been earmarked for canalside business start-up accommodation in new plans brought forward by Oliver Chapman Architects.

Occupying land owned by Scottish Canals off Mid Wharf Street and supported by the Scottish Government the initiative would open up the canal to cyclists and walkers through the removal of an existing concrete wall.

In its place would stand a series of stacked shipping containers as a means to support sustainable re-use and affordable construction, with extensive areas of glazing introduced.

In a character statement, the architects wrote: “Our proposals meet this challenge by modelling the overall built form so that it is legible from street level as a cluster of modular units and cranking and partially cantilevering the most prominent container at this corner on the top floor, with dramatic effect for its roofscape.”

Enterprise Wharf would be set back 9m from the water's edge to facilitate improved public realm with the potential for temporary events or potentially a café.
