Cairngorm Mountain Restaurant secures planning consent

Cairngorm National Park Authority has granted planning consent to the renovation and extension of Ptarmigan Restaurant on Cairngorm Mountain.

The current building, which doubles as a funicular railway terminus and visitor centre, will be completely remodelled, together with the addition of a 360-degree viewing platform on stilts.

Katherine Donnachie, planning officer at the CNPA said: “Much of the work involved is internal and will make a positive difference to how people move about and it will make things like snow clearance and access much easier.

“Externally, while they are seeking to extend the building, the visual impacts will be minimal. The layout and design of the new development are wholly satisfactory and I think that it offers an attractive design solution for a mountain environment.”

The plans will now be taken forward by Highlands & Islands Enterprise and Trail Architects to renew the attractiveness of the centre as a visitor destination, realising a long-held vision to upgrade the facility.
