Contractor sought for Govanhill Pool after £2.15m grant funding secured

Long held ambitions to transform the historic Govanhill Baths into wellbeing centre look set to be made reality after securing £2.15m in funding from the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.

The cash will support the trust in their efforts to reopen the Edwardian pool, returning it to public use and refurbishing ancillary spaces for social enterprise initiatives.

Project director David Cook said: "This is great news for the health and wellbeing of the Govanhill community and a testament to many years of hard work from the Govanhill Baths team and their determination to bring the historic Baths back into sustainable use as an asset for Govanhill and Glasgow.

“This positive development means we now have the funding to start the tender process so we can get a contractor in place later in the year and then the community will start seeing progress."

Refurbishment of the baths, overseen by Hall Black Douglas and conservation architect Alistair Coey, is now expected to get underway in earnest from the summer.
