BDP is spearheading efforts to build a £40m Bio Therapeutics Hub for Innovation at the Forresterhill Health Campus in Aberdeen.

Biohub would sit to the west of the current campus on a south facing greenfield site bounded by Aberdeenshire Council HQ, providing a mix of offices, laboratories and a café across 69,000sq/ft of accommodation to help grow Aberdeen’s life sciences credentials.

Indicative sketches drawn up in advance of a detailed planning application show a triangular facility would be flanked by car parking, harnessing steep topography to maximise views to the city beyond.

Landscaping works to the Gilcomston Burn would include a bridge link, green retaining wall and an external break out space.

Prof Stephen Logan, chair of the life sciences board at economic development body Opportunity North East (which is leading the development) commented: “This is an exciting project for the region and we are now beginning the formal planning approval process for the hub with the local authority. It draws on the significant assets in and around the Foresterhill Health Campus and will realise the opportunity we have to bring forward the next generation of medical therapies and products and grow our company cluster."

Phase one of the Biohub could open its doors by 2021.

Site preparation works are already taking place to deliver the £163m Baird Family Hospital within the campus.
