Collective win Camphill School Aberdeen comp

Collective Arhitecture have seen off five other shortlisted challengers to win a design contest for Camphill School Aberdeen.

The competition was organized by the RIAS Consultancy to find a practice to deliver the £10m brief  is to develop the chool’s Murtle and Camphill estates.

Collective’s Mairi Laverty said: “The project vision for Camphill School Aberdeen is inspiring and builds on their pioneering approach and legacy.

“Our concept design sought to respond to both the tranquil site and the particular needs and aspirations of residents, volunteers and staff.”

The other shortlisted practices were Anderson Bell + Christie; Hoskins Architects; James F Stephen Architects; JM Architects and Scott Brownrigg.

Well done Collective, and also to RIAS for organising a much streamlined procurement process. 2 A4s only for the initial bid, then a shortlisting of 6 to produce a concept proposal. Then award. Great to see a site specific response to a school, for a change too.

Congratulations. A pleasantly modest, humanly-scaled and legible building design, reminiscent of the 70s work of Aldington & Craig.
