April 4 201813 new homes at Portobello Beach, completing a partially finished scheme which first gained consent back in 2013.
Revised plans for the final element of this scheme will be taken forward with a view to respecting both the visual impact of two listed brick kilns, the last vestiges of the former Buchan Pottery which closed in 1972, and amenity of existing residents.
Situated on brownfield land off Pipe Lane the proposal is led by 11 flats, sited to serve as a ‘strong visual focal point’ to the corner of Pipe lane and the Promenade.
In their design statement CLA wrote: “The building is proposed to be one storey higher than the previously approved scheme. This additional floor is set back from the frontages of the building and will be of a light-frame construction, clad in natural zinc cladding, which will not increase its perceived scale or impact visually when viewed from Pipe Lane or the immediate Promenade area.”
A separate detached building will deliver three additional townhouses on land to the rear, with the space between opening up views of the kilns from the Promenade.
All homes benefit from their own balcony, terrace or south facing garden.
