University of St Andrews turns to Guardbridge
The University of St Andrews has confirmed plans are afoot to relocate 400 staff from its historic home in the centre of St Andrews to the satellite Eden Campus at Guardbridge.

To facilitate this migration plans have been submitted to Fife Council by Atkins to convert a former paper mill into a modern working environment via a £20m programme of restoration and refurbishment. Plans include provision for a public café as well as offices, storage for library stock, a staff canteen and landscaping together with a new entrance to the campus.

University of St Andrews Quaestor and Factor Derek Watson said: “This is a major strategic move for the University which will provide an exceptional working environment for our staff, breathe new life in the local economy of Guardbridge and have a beneficial impact on the town of St Andrews.

“We are committed to rejuvenating the former paper mill site and the development will result in the reuse of existing buildings, introduce a modern yet sympathetic new entrance into the site, and foster a sense of vibrancy and vitality.”

Following a two-year construction and fit out process this will free up much needed accommodation for teaching and research in St Andrews town centre when employees begin to make the switch from the end of 2019.

I like the invisible cake table that the man is leaning on in image 2: all his friends seem to have taken the last ones. Architecturally this is quite exciting.

On another note, St Andrews has become very expensive to buy and rent property in over the past 15 years and staff do need to travel in from beyond the town for work, so this is corporate responsibility in action.
