Stratford twin tower scheme to rise at Olympic Park

Stratford twin tower scheme to rise at Olympic Park
ICA have won approval from Newham Council to erect an 18-storey hotel within the Olympic Park at Stratford, London, which will operate under Hilton’s Curio Collection brand, together with a 17-storey Adagio Aparthotel.

Boasting 285 bedrooms the Curio hotel will incorporate restaurants and a sky bar viewing deck rising above a curved two-storey podium.  Formed from a skin of copper fins designed to reflect light and shadow throughout the passing of the day the project seeks to juxtapose its luxurious appointment with a raw finish.

The design of both buildings has been inspired by the area’s industrial past, making use of interior set pieces such as a reclaimed chandelier and velvet clad furniture and a variety of curios.

Chris Fegan, Director at ICA comments: “It was great to work closely with a client whose vision was to create a landmark hotel which had the local neighbourhood at its heart. By layering the heritage of Stratford into the design we feel that we have created something that is iconic and will be a unique experience for the guest.”

Work will now proceed imminently on-site with a view to opening in 2020.

I think this looks really good. I'm not sure the engineer has had a look at the scheme yet, but still, nice images...

Looks pretty tasty! Much better than the uniform dross that permeates the Olympic Park and is a marked improvement than typical bland Hilton hotels. Great, also, for a Scottish based Practice to work on a high profile job in London.

With reference to #5's post, the 'problem' for Bill and MV, is that you and many others may have been duped, such is the nature of plagiarism.

Oh my. I have been duped. ICA have designed a really nice building that looks like another really nice building. OMG how dare they... I mean... I have never seen two buildings that look similar before. EVERY BUILDING MUST BE DIFFERENT PEOPLE. No problem for me, K.O.C.

King of Comedy, I am not entirely what you mean by putting words into my mouth.

Are you claiming that ICA have plagiarised a design from an another Architect? We all know that copyright is a grey area in Architecture, but if you are making that claim publicly, then that is quite a serious allegation and I am sure that the relevant architectural bodies, not least ARB, would be keen to hear of your complaint and subsequent evidence.

Or are you just pathetically spouting nonsense in some vain attempt at criticism of the design?

#10 I stand corrected..I got my crap, bland hotel chains mixed up.
This scheme does look good, but c'mon, its only due to the distinctive facade detail pinched from Copenhagen which has been spread over the mass like jam. Not saying this is a bad thing...but their scheme for Hilton by Premier Inn in Fountainbridge is perhaps a more reflective account of their talents.

C'mon StyleCouncil, do better than that. Is your need for criticism so much that you need to refer to other designs, when a decent one is staring you in the face, just to get your fill of loathing out?. New Year.. new positivity?

What is wrong with the world nowadays. No one reads past the headline.

Yes, as I said, their current proposal is decent, however I peddle past Fountainbridge every morning and have to endure that flat, offensive monstrosity. A building that deserved continuous vitriol when the opportunity arrises. Thats the problem with the 'world nowadays'..folk just except crap.
