Design work can now begin in earnest to overhaul the station’s frontage, forecourt and concourse to provide additional retail, an enhanced civic presence and public realm works to Academy Street together with improved links to Falcon Square and the bus station.
This work will be undertaken in tandem with track improvements to enhance inter-city and commuter services.
ScotRail Alliance’s project lead Peter O’Connell said: “Inverness is ready for a railway station that matches the dynamic and forward-looking development of the cityscape.”
Finalised designs will be placed on public display within the station concourse ahead of an invitation to tender for construction in the autumn.
