Work gets underway at Shetland’s Anderson High School
August 3 2015£55.75m Anderson High School and halls of residence on the Shetland Islands is set to get underway after the project reached financial close.
Located at Stanley Hill, Lerwick, the new campus is being funded by the Scottish Government through the Scottish Futures Trust and will be completed by late summer 2017.
Designed by Ryder Architecture the school will accommodate up to 1,180 pupils alongside a 100 bed residential annexe to replace existing facilities on the island.
Angus Macfarlane, chief executive of hub North Scotland, commented: “This is a vitally important step for the new Anderson High School project and is of great significance to the staff, pupils and community it will serve.”
Clad in timber upon a masonry concrete base the school is intended to be robust and durable whilst evoking the feel of a traditional barn.
