Gareth Hoskins secure planning for twin Lothian health centres
Gareth Hoskins Architects have obtained planning permission for twin health centres developed with Hub South east and Graham on behalf of NHS Lothian and West Lothian Council.

Clad in light coloured brick with precast concrete elements the Firrhill Partnership Centre is a 2,400sq/m building in Colinton, Edinburgh, which will integrate two GP surgeries alongside a range of primary care services around a three storey foyer.

In their design statement the architects note: “The Partnership Centre has a strong street presence with the public entrance clearly visible on Colinton Mains Drive.

“The new 2-3 storey building is organised around a central landscaped courtyard which provides a green outlook form the main circulation and waiting spaces. The glazed frontage to the street gives an open and welcoming entrance and on entering there are immediately views through to the courtyard.”

It joins the 3,000sq/m Blackburn Partnership Centre in West Lothian, which will combine a library, sports hall, community centre and a dental practice together with a GP surgery. Individual departments here will be arranged around a central double-height atrium and open-plan library which overlooks a new public square.
