Nord submit latest Maryhill Locks regeneration plan

November 12 2013recipient of the Andrew Doolan Award, have submitted plans for the latest phase of residential development at Maryhill Locks on behalf of ISIS Waterside Regeneration.
The terraced housing scheme will deliver 40 homes of up to four bedrooms for sale at ‘the botany’, part of a wider masterplan which has already seen delivery of phase one housing from Elder + Cannon and phase two housing from Hypostyle, which is still on site.
Situated on land which has lain vacant for over a decade the £3.9m scheme has been designed to impart a sense of place and identity with a simple linear form of facing brick.
In their design statement Nord write: “Formally the scheme has been set out as simple linear terraces with expressive ends. The two, three and four bedroom units have been developed to a similar construction and plan type to offer repetition and flexibility of typology mix while the three and four bedroom house makes use of an inhabited roof space. The sloping topography of the site allows for large picture windows to be set out to take advantage of panoramic views over Glasgow’s West End and beyond.
“To create a sense of diversity across the long façades the fenestration has been staggered to blur the distinction between each dwelling. The proposal has been conceived as a building with a common language, materiality of the terraces has been developed as a simple but robust palette of brick with a family of precast concrete pieces used to articulate thresholds and openings.”
