Designed by Reiach & Hall, on behalf of NHS Lanarkshire and Graham Construction, the £19.6m Hunter Health Centre will be situated adjacent to the existing centre and provide 6,300sq/m of accommodation arranged over five floors.
NHS Lanarkshire’s chief executive Ian Ross said: “We are delighted that we now have the official go ahead to begin work on Hunter Health Centre.
“This is a major development for the area that will provide excellent facilities to allow us to deliver truly modern, top class health services to the people of East Kilbride.
“The design has been carefully planned to ensure we make the best use of the available space and have a flexible facility that can adapt to meet the changing needs of modern healthcare.”
Offering a range of health services including six GP practices and a dental surgery the centre is one of three new health centres planned for the region; the others being located at Wishaw and Kilsyth.
