Keppie’s Dumbarton Academy completes

October 23 2013£10.6m Dumbarton Academy, part of the Scottish Government’s £1.25bn Schools for the Future programme, has been officially opened by one of its former pupils, Dr John Brown now Astronomer Royal for Scotland.
Designed by Keppie and built by BAM Construction the new school will house up to 750 pupils and incorporates its own theatre and library. Other features include playground gym equipment, outdoor performance area and garden with plans to build two floodlit all-weather pitches; a grass pitch and100m running track on the site of the demolished existing school.
Campbell said: “It’s a great privilege to officially open the new Dumbarton Academy. The facilities here are absolutely first rate, from the stunning library to the excellent theatre, and I’m certain pupils will enjoy learning in such a wonderful environment.
“The completion of this school is another great example of the Scottish Government, a local authority and those involved in the construction process working successfully in partnership to deliver a building that will not only benefit pupils, but the wider community.
“I’m confident this school will flourish in the years to come, helping to support pupils’ learning experience and fulfil their true potential.”
