Revised Dundee V&A plans submitted
April 15 2013revised plans for their £45m V&A museum and riverside walkway plans following a rethink of plans to locate the facility offshore.
Forming part of Dundee’s waterfront masterplan the scheme will be situated on the site of the former Olympia Leisure Centre, scheduled for demolition in 2014, and will provide more direct links to the city centre.
In all other respects the scheme will remain as before, presenting itself to pedestrians on Union Street and inviting movement down to the presently underutilised riverfront.
Designed by Cre8 Architecture and Kengo Kuma the reconstituted stone structure is inspired by the layering of sediment visible in some cliff faces and is scheduled to open its doors in 2015.
Visual connections between the main hall and outdoor public space were a key consideration for the design team.
