Charles to chair eco home design competition
Prince Charles, president of the Prince’s Foundation, has been named as chair of a panel of judges tasked with selecting an affordable, low energy, comfortable and modern eco-home to serve as the centrepiece of the Ideal Home Show 2013.

The selection will be drawn from a pool of young designers under the age of 40 who enter this year’s design competition (the first of its type); which will place emphasis on the innovative use of local materials and technology.

Built using the Princes’ super insulated shell system, an adaptable process which can be tailored to a range of designs and materials, the system is touted as keeping homes warm in winter and cool in summer.

The winning designer will also receive a £5k cash prize as well as the pride of seeing their creation rise on a real development site.

Joining Charles on the judging team this year will be presenters Kirstie Allsopp and George Clarke as well as Hank Dittmar, CEO of the Princes Foundation and Richard Morey, property director at the Ideal Home Show.

Chief Executive of The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community, Hank Dittmar said: “We hope that this competition will generate some enthusiasm in the design world and look forward to receiving the creative and imaginative entries that we are sure such a competition will inspire.”
