It will see creation of a new retail unit set to be occupied by Primark – a vote of confidence by the budget retailer in the city before its 3DReid designed flagship has even opened.
The glass fronted unit would accommodate two floors of retail space spanning 4,911sq/m of space at the front of the existing centre.
Halliday Fraser Munro said of the development: “The main feature of the new block will be the multi clad wall. The top line of this feature wall will take its cue, in terms of height from the W.M. Morrison’s and Marks and Spencer’s anchor stores.
“Above this line the construction will be set back on a recessed plane. The opaque glass and flat ‘floating’ roof will offer a more lightweight structure to be read as a secondary structural element.”
This forms part of longer term plans to migrate the centre’s focus west toward the site of a proposed tram stop and to erect a living “green” wall in the form of a trellis system attached to the existing wall planted with a variety of evergreen climbers.
