Collective pen Argyle Street upgrade
December 17 2010
Commissioned by Glasgow City Council’s Development and Regeneration Services department the development will entail construction of a new street café and market kiosks
Collective’s design is intended to respond to the important east/west through route by introducing a linear double height structure across the streets central reservation.
This incorporates a second storey gallery and terrace which affords elevated views of Alexander Thomson’s Bucks Head building, from which the new insertion takes its proportions.
Elevations are predominantly glazed in a bid to maintain cross street views whilst bronze louvred panels, designed by Martin Boyce, will be illuminated by night.
Adjacent public realm will also be enhanced with the introduction of new seating and lighting.
David Narro Associates are assisting with engineering calculations associated with the lightweight, modular structure.
