Gateshead’s Trinity Square approved

November 26 2010

Gateshead’s Trinity Square approved
A £150m development by Tesco in Gateshead Town Centre has been approved by planners.

Designed by 3DReid the scheme includes a town square, 45 retail units, offices, a 950 bed student village, underground parking and a Tesco store.

Provision has also been made for a possible hotel.

A range of sustainable features will be accommodated in the designs; including brown and green roofs, tree planting, a combined heat and power plant and even the potential for an artificial nesting platform for peregrine falcons.

It will occupy the site of the former Trinity Square Shopping Centre and Car Park, for which Owen Luder received a Rubble Club award last year.

Work should get underway by Spring 2011.

That last picture is of the former Cat B listed Odeon/ formerNew Victoria in Edinburgh. The rest is Tescotown 3DReid crap, which will not enhance the centre of Gateshead in the slightest.

Anyone who uses 'crap' in a comment in replacement of proper english obviously is not worthy of bothering about.

Personally i'm sick of reading nonsense comments on this site. Time for urban realm to sort it out.

Should that extend to people who cannot use capital letters correctly?

As Urban Realm rarely provides any real critique it's left to the comments to state that crap is crap.

Try CABE and English Heritage then. Summary: it's crap. That's what happens when you allow Tesco to rebuild your town. I'm not sure you get Clubcard points on it.

Difficult mixed use brief on prominent site with commercial client trying to cram in as much sq ft as possible resulting in mish mash of forms and footprints in unsuccessful over-development? Surely, you are not surprised?

I'm not surprised - and don't call me Shirley.
