NVA to preserve St Peter’s as “living ruin.”
Art company NVA has become the latest company to announce plans to preserve the A listed St Peter’s Seminary, Cardross, this time as a “living ruin”.

NVA, who specialise in outdoor art installations, are to scrap existing plans to transform the ruin into a hotel or flats and will instead “accept the building in its current state.”

Renovations will be kept to a minimum with a three year design process informing what functions and facilities can be added whilst the extensive grounds are revitalised.

NVA’s creative director Angus Farquhar told The Herald: “It will be a working space and also perhaps a centre for education. I think that is the right solution for St Peter’s.”

St Peter’s, still owned by the Archdiocese of Glasgow, was designed by Isi Metzstein and Andy MacMillan in 1966. Estimates for its full restoration have been put in excess of £11m.

Ross Brown illustrated the Seminary as a Bursary Award at 2010 Pittenweem Arts Festival and for his degree at Duncan Jordanstone. Images & text available in brochure.

crying shame, 11m is chumps change for such a magnificent building, when you think that in excess of 100m was spent on the Royal Festival Hall on Londons south bank. But glad it will be used for something if it ever does. Trust the asbestos will be removed carefully as we dont want people dying from asbestosis in 30 years time.
