Gateshead expands intermediate rent offer to tenants
Gateshead Council has granted planning permission for nearly 150 new homes in the borough’s Kibblesworth estate.

The estate comprises a number of prefabricated “Airey” properties built in the 1940’s, designed as a short term solution it would be prohibitively expensive to bring them up to standard.

Instead Gateshead Housing Company will replace these properties with new homes with the support of the Homes and Communities Agency and Gateshead Council.

Providing a mix of properties for social rent, private sale and ‘intermediate rent’ – properties offered at below market rates to people who do not qualify for social housing, the housing agency aims to provide flexible options for first time buyers looking to get on the housing ladder.

It is hoped that work can begin in March.
