Tiger Developments is preferred bidder for Haymarket

July 1 2006

Tiger Developments, a London based developer, has been named as the preferred bidder for the Haymarket site in Edinburgh. The site was owned by the EDI Group, the Council’s arms-length property company, but has been put up for sale by Edinburgh City Council in order to raise money. Tiger is a joint venture company between O’Flynn Construction and Goodbody Stockbrokers. O’Flynn is rumoured to be one of the wealthiest construction companies in Ireland.

The selection of Tiger Development follows a marketing campaign by Jones Lang La Salle. Thirteen bids were received for the site that has planning permission for a mixed use development including offices, retail and leisure uses.

Tiger Developments are currently making no comment about their plans for the site, but it is unlikely that they will develop the current approved scheme, which was granted approval following a public inquiry. Any new approval is likely to attract a great deal of interest from planners and heritage lobby groups, particularly as it has been earmarked as a major transport inter-change.
