Sustainable Glasgow look back to the future with trams
Trams and congestion charging are amongst two options being considered in a new report from Sustainable Glasgow, an initiative which aims to transform the city into one of Europe’s greenest.

Led by Strathclyde University the initiative aims to cut carbon emissions in the city by 30% by 2020.

Untroubled by fraught introduction to trams in the east the report indicated that a tram link connecting Glasgow Central to Queen Street stations could ease congestion in retail areas if integrated with a network of park and ride buses.

Congestion charging has proven to be a political hot potato since introduction in London and politicians have been quick to distance themselves with both Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government vetoing the idea.

This is despite apparent public support with two thirds of Glaswegians backing the scheme. Councillors are wary of disadvantaging Glasgow without any national legislation in place.

Plans are in place for a guided busway along the Clyde, Fastlink, which could serve as a stepping stone toward a fully fledged tram system in the city.

Glasgow is a city made for trams, also disused tunnels and railway lines are screaming out for a light rail network, most cities would die for Glasgows infrastructure, eburgh had to build and move everything to get one line through,Glasgow wouldnt have those problems.

Is this new Tram System and route along the clydeside, actually going to be built and used as public transport? It would bring back old memories to older Glaswegians, and show the new generation how trams operated a lot better than the bus services of today, that a lot of people are disappointed with Would this new fastlink tram service also take people to the new Riverside Museum on the Clyde?
It would be a good idea to have a short Tram service of old Classic trams from the Transport Museum, operating again on the waste grounds next to the new Riverside Museum, for Tourists and Glaswegians alike to use!
Kind Regards, Enan Louise - Glasgow
