Haymarket Hotel grounded
Richard Murphy’s plans for a 17 storey hotel tower on Edinburgh’s Haymarket have been thrown out by the Scottish Government after a public inquiry found it would intrude on the city skyline and “dominate the townscape of Haymarket”.

The decision was welcomed by campaigners but business leaders warned of the detrimental impact on the economy of knocking back £250m of investment wrapped up in the five star hotel, offices and shops.

Edinburgh City Council had previously approved Tiger Developments plans, putting them at loggerheads with the government.

The site is now likely to lie derelict for the foreseeable future.
