Planning permission has been granted for Archial’s £40m expansion of the five star Marcliffe Hotel and Spa in the western suburbs of Aberdeen.

Extensive alterations and extensions will provide an additional 228 bedrooms, reception, function room, lounge, leisure and spa accommodation above an underground car park.

Scheme backers aim to address a perceived shortage five star accommodation within the city with a contemporary building set within 11 acres of wooded grounds.

Work is scheduled to start on site later this year with completion tabled for 2011.
