Cheer for Stromness Pier

Cheer for Stromness Pier
Reiach and Hall Architects have scooped a 2009 European Heritage Award for their Piers Arts Centre in Stromness, one of only 28 winners from across the continent.

To be presented on the June 5 the award is latest in a string of gongs including the Scottish Design Awards 2008, Architecture Grand Prix.

The £2.8m restoration, refurbishment and new build was recognised for its complementary approach to the charm of neighbouring stone houses and boat sheds.

Launched by the European Commission and Europa Nostra the awards are designed to celebrate initiatives that enhance Europe’s cultural heritage and provide a healthy €10,000 prize to each winning scheme.
