Page/Park rekindles Glasgow's tenement tradition in Strathbungo

A forgotten strip of land alongside some of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's most important surviving works is being used to support a revival of Glasgow's pre-war tenement tradition.

Inspired by the master's preference for continuous linear living Page/Park, together with landowner Arnold Clark, has achieved planning consent for the site of a former garage on Nithsdale Road, defined by a singular sweeping crescent and repeating facade.

Responding to Thomson's Salisbury Quadrant as well as his former home at 1 Moray Place, part of a larger Victorian terrace, the proposal features regular inset balconies topped by a mansard roof with former windows.

Formed from blonde brick the new tenement has four step-free common closes as well as 60 parking spaces in a concession to modern convenience.

Westpoint Homes will now develop the project.
