New plans emerge for a Woodside gap site

Queens Cross Housing Association has come forward with proposals for infill housing at Glenfarg Street in the Woodside area of Glasgow.

Working with Mast Architects, the social landlord proposes eight apartments on the site of a recently demolished welfare club associated with Woodside Halls.

Replacing a 2018 application for supported living accommodation the current plan advocates a modular build set back from the street edge with a communal patio and rain garden to the rear.

In a planning statement, the architects observed: "To ensure no underpinning of existing building foundations, existing levels require to be retained around the periphery - the levels at the rear of the site are significantly higher than that of the front. As such, the finished floor level is proposed to be raised from the existing ground level to provide a split-level entrance close.

"To the front of the proposals, it's proposed that the existing pillar is retained and a new dwarf wall/railing is erected to match existing at Woodside Halls."

Four wheelchair-accessible flats are included in the housing mix.

Another boring scheme with a thoughtless design.

It’s time to change profession, just give up. God awful.

Fits into the urban grid properly and does not waste space - needs to be encouraged.
Unfortunately Woodside won't improve until previous planning mistakes are rectified - that means demolishing some buildings repositioning playing fields etc and reconstructing areas like Garscube Cross and the Braid area at the M8.

The slightly neo-classical vibe is actually not too bad compared to some other stuff around but windows look a bit like empty eye sockets for some reason if you know what I mean.
