Inverkeithing set fair with a Mercat Cross makeover
April 22 2025
Fife Council's roads department has begun work to reshape Inverkeithing town centre with a streetscape improvement project designed to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment.
Improvements to pavements and road surfaces from the High Street, Market Square and Townhall Street will usher in a new era for the town by emphasising heritage assets such as the town house.
Leading the changes is the Mercat Cross that will be restored and relocated to a more prominent position on Market Square in time for the Lammas Fair in August.
Phased implementation has already seen Church Street, most of Townhall Street and Bank Street transformed, with current efforts focussed on Bank Street and High Street progressing towards Hope Street.
A pedestrian crossing is to be upgraded to a toucan crossing as part of this element.
