Hotel & serviced apartments to revitalise a rundown corner of St Enoch

A rundown warehouse in the shadow of Glasgow's St Enoch Shopping Centre is to be thrust back into the light under plans to turn it into a hotel and serviced apartments.

Regent Property Group has appointed Haus Architects to reimagine a run of properties at 90/96 Maxwell Street and 40 Fox Street, redeveloping a collection of buildings that last saw use as a nightclub.

The space will be redeveloped to incorporate a variety of bedrooms and apartments operated by Radisson and includes a rooftop lounge and a ground floor restaurant, gym and meeting area.

Jay Singh, director of Regent Property Glasgow said: “We are keen to invest in Glasgow and see the city move forward with alternative thriving hospitality developments, supporting the Council’s ambition to bring greater leisure and residential amenities to the city centre. To have such a significant brand as Radisson on board, who also recognise the benefits of the city, is a huge opportunity. Our proposals compliment and offer an exciting development of Glasgow City Council’s St Enoch District Regeneration Framework and will enliven this currently neglected location.”

Detailed plans will be shared during an initial public consultation on 27 February.

Radisson must have won Glesga in the Global Hotel Inc raffle.

Interesting that they still have an appetite for Glasgow property when others are sitting on the fence.

Make the train to Edinburgh that bit cheaper and the West would get a boost.

@#1...though, at the same time, make the train to Edinburgh that bit cheaper and I'd go through to Edinburgh more...

Great to see another derelict building being brought back into use, let's hope the project proceeds quickly. Not sure what the Edinburgh comments have got to do with anything, would London prosper more with cheaper trains to Birmingham? Glasgow is a city of 1.5million people and a strong independent city economy, the largest in Scotland by quite some measure. Good luck to HAUS and Radisson with the project.

#3 -- I think you are either living in the past or getting wet in a large river in Egypt.

Glasgow is on the slide.
Devolution / Holyrood has not been good for the city.

Plus 18 years of Nat failure and laziness plus Tory dog boiling austerity has been catastrophic.

Auld Reekie bursting at the seams.
We have gap sites everywhere and then some more.
Pride should be out the window.
We need to work every angle.

It's a not bad idea after the smashing of most of the short term lets in the city but not a residential use as stated. Always nice to see a good stone building being repurposed anyway.

FAT BOT- Annoying but funny and mostly correct, 'dog boiling austerity'- love it.

However, there are other games in town politically and we can get rid of our current 'Maharaja' style leaders and be the new Norway any day we want, the only thing holding us back is ourselves so stop bleating and blaming and start doing....

#4, judging by your regular comments on various UR articles as well as this one, I don't think I am the one in need of a reality check...

I don't usually feel the need to comment on UR stories but I think it is worth bringing it to everyone's attention that this article has failed to mention that the basement level of this building is still in use as a nightclub. It is called Exit, and in my personal opinion it hosts some of the best club nights and gigs in Glasgow. If the plans go ahead it could result in a terrible loss to Glasgow's underground and experimental music scene.

Why are people here under an impression that the "good stone building" going to be repurposed or brought back to use? It's going to be demolished and will make way for this:
