Perth Museum gears up for a weekend extravaganza

The city of Perth is gearing up for the long-awaited opening of its new museum this weekend following an extensive overhaul of the former City Hall by Mecanoo Architects.

Opening to the public on Saturday the £27m Perth Museum will be heralded by a series of events to celebrate the attraction, headlined by the Stone of Destiny.

Having narrowly escaped demolition in 2005 the B-listed building has been revamped inside and out to facilitate increased security and change of use.

Signalling the changes are 'light touch' interventions including newly expanded entrances framed in bronze metal and a three-story bronze pavilion framing a Pictish Cross in the main hall.

Standing as a gateway to the city the changes seek to build on the existing character of the hall while improving accessibility and through connections, including level access and wider openings to improve transparency on all sides.

Whisper it.......but you'd think they might have used some of that wasted £27M on putting the main entrance at the front!

Total nonsense of a vanity project in a housing crisis. Struggle to spend more than 30 mins in it. Opportunity cost of this thing is around 200 social houses.......I know where I'd rather the money was spent.

#1 so...you were in favour of turning a grade B listed building into type 1? (right behind you!) to create a usable space within the city?
