Edinburgh Steiner School to boost pupil capacity

Edinburgh Steiner School has set out how it could deliver additional classrooms within the grounds of its C-listed suburban home.

Benjamin Tindall Architects have been briefed to increase classroom space for a further 60 children in a timber-clad annexe housing two classrooms, a cloakroom and toilets.

In a design statement, the architects wrote: "New buildings will follow the Steiner spirit and become part of the teaching process.

Every opportunity is taken to create practical spaces with good detailing." Set within the school's Spylaw Road campus, a cluster of stone villas repurposed for educational use, the boundary-hugging annexe will sit below a low pitch-green roof.

This building is intended to provide two purpose-built spacious rooms for our current Seedlings Groups. Each hold up to ten children per day. Seedlings is for our youngest children aged 2 - 3.5 years old. The design is indeed Waldorf inspired.
