Bellahouston build tackles Glasgow's housing emergency

The residential transformation of the former Bellahouston Academy has been completed with the unveiling of 36 affordable homes.

AS Homes has steered the transition of the urban site at North Gower Street through the delivery of a mix of apartments, some with private gardens.

Set within a cluster of B-listed former educational buildings the new build development by George Buchanan Architects emphasises sustainability through the use of solar panels and high-performance glazing.

Kieran Sexton, commercial director at AS Homes Scotland, said: “This development represents another step in our journey to helping tackle Glasgow’s housing emergency and we look forward to progressing an exciting pipeline of new homes in 2024.”

Amenities include an informal play park, on-site parking and cycle storage.  Images by Martin Shields Photography.

Wow. Listed building of the future right there. That playground is particularly special.

Do we think the housing emergency will now be used to effectively build mediocre buildings?

Presumably the bin and cycle stores were an after thought?
