Future Peterhead museum & library receives first public airing

Aberdeenshire Council has shared concept designs for a £20m regional museum and library in Peterhead.

The Peterhead Cultural Project focuses on the historic Arbuthnot House on Broad Street, which will be comprehensively restored and extended to serve as a showcase for the region's heritage and art.

Initial designs by Collective Architecture include workshop and learning spaces to enhance engagement and complement exhibition space, with the library relocating to the ground floor of the new extension.

Opening onto a public garden the space will include a terrace with sunken seating, a cafe and a shop.

Aberdeenshire Council leader Cllr Gillian Owen said: “This will be a museum for Aberdeenshire, showcasing the inspiring individuals, sensational stories and amazing artefacts that make the north-east unique."

A top floor restaurant is also planned offering views across the harbour.
