Design studio Graven is branching out from interiors and branding to tackle the great outdoors in partnership with landscape architect Raeburn Farquhar Bowen.

Repurposing the skills of the trade for a different environment the practice will seek to encourage people to spend more time in the town centre by transforming an unprepossessing patch of bare concrete off Bridge Street into a mini oasis.

Currently in use as a car park, the site will be opened up as an enclosed sanctuary, enclosed on three sides by buildings which offer respite from the elements as well as a base for a host of new leisure facilities including a nightclub, bowling alley and shop.

Graven director Ross Hunter said: “The design proposal is to insert a fully enclosed walled garden set within the existing space. Through this approach we create discrete 'lanes' around the perimeter accessing the destinations in the former warehouses. The south and west edges of the 'garden wall' incorporate 'kiosks' that will provide opportunities for complimentary retail/food & beverage businesses.”

Subject to planning it is hoped to have the new space up and running by summer 2025.

This is Scotland -- where is the shelter / cover / partial roof?

It’s not Scotland it’s Orkney and we’re not soft like those southerners !

Orkney was part of Pictland so it is Scottish.

Lets be having none of that we are of Viking stock nonsense -- hyper violent colonial expansionism is never a good look.
