Aberdeen council house drive builds momentum

A council house construction drive in Aberdeen has gained further momentum with plans to build 87 homes at the site of the former Craighill Primary School, Kincorth.

The local authority has engaged jmarchitects and RankinFraser for the build which has been redrawn following a value engineering review to reduce the scale from four storeys to three and rationalise the site plan.

A dementia-friendly design has been adopted that combines a mix of apartments and terraced housing, with blocks arranged to create an urban edge to the site with gables identifying key junctions.

In a statement, the architects wrote: "The proposal aspires to create a new integrated pedestrian focussed neighbourhood at the heart of the design ethos. The aim is for the newly formed residential streets to provide an environment in which people can safely interact with each other and take pleasure in their surroundings. The combination of buildings, streets and open space should create a local identity and positively compliment the character of the community."

Citing inflation and supply change issues a decision has also been taken to swap brickwork for roughcast render.
