Radical surgery transforms a Granton supermarket into a private hospital

A former Morrisons supermarket in Granton, Edinburgh, has been transformed into a private hospital by NVDC Architects.
The Waterfront Hospital, specialising in cosmetic and plastic surgery, occupies part of a retail building which had lain unoccupied for 14 years until rediscovered by NVDC founder Farahbod Nakhaei.
Appointed following a competitive pitch the architects created two operating suites, treatment rooms and ancillary spaces that are fully compliant with NHS standards.
Nakhaei commented: “Having delivered several projects of a similar nature we understood the complexities of adhering to rigorous SHTM (Scottish Health Technical Memorandum) guidelines and building regulations. We were able to combine our understanding and passion to create a truly amazing and uplifting space which reflects the high standards of treatment and care provided by the client.
“We are passionate about growing our healthcare portfolio and showcasing our strengths and expertise in this sector. Most recently NVDC oversaw the completion of the Glasgow Day Surgery Centre, a registered HIS hospital.”
Key design features include a bespoke staircase behind the curved front facade.

There is nothing radical about this but there is another word ending in 'al' that is more suitable.
Banal.
