Game set and match for Andy Murray as planners grant cabin consent

Stirling Council has granted full planning consent for the erection of nine architect-designed woodland cabins in the grounds of Dunblane's Cromlix House.

Owned by tennis star Sir Andy Murray the approval clears the way for an expansion of the 15-bedroom lodge into 34 acres of grounds with a variety of accommodations themed on water, treetops and a circle.

Designs by Fergus Purdie Architects show a variety of cabin types including the Lochan, a waterside abode with its private jetty. Guests will also be able to select a cylindrical wooden home with a green roof and outdoor decking. More dramatic is the Treetop design which raises accommodation on stilts to maximise views.

Rounding off the variety of styles is a larger private retreat and guest wing over three floors which includes a rooftop terrace, games room and open-plan living quarters.

Overriding concerns from the Scottish Wildlife Trust around the impact on waterbirds the authority agreed that mitigation measures to retain trees, alleviate ground compaction and use of no-dig construction techniques, were sufficient to permit these cabins to be built.

A full survey of protected species will also be carried out before work begins.

From the last shot, it's clear the architects were fans of Scout Walkers from Return of the Jedi.
