Barratt shows off a new wave of Leith apartments

Housebuilder Barratt has shared its latest project completion, a development of 53 affordable homes on Leith's Salamander Street.

Merchant Quay comprises a mix of one to three-bedroom apartments, delivered in partnership with Harbour Housing Association, with the majority of homes (43) available for social rent.

The 10 remaining 'golden share' homes will be sold at 80% of their market value, with buyers still owning 100% of the property.

On a tour of the building Ben Macpherson, MSP for Edinburgh Northern and Leith, said: "It was interesting to learn how some of Leith’s industrial heritage has been preserved in the communal areas of the development, as many will know the area was previously a glassworks."

Barratt has already completed 114 properties at Cammo Meadows in a similar style.

Barratt flats are so small you have to go in sideways.
